Description
Tomato Spaccatella is not a sauce, but it can actually be used to obtain a good tomato sauce. However, we suggest to use it as it is: half tomatoes preserved in water and salt. Tomato Spaccatella is produced from fresh, healthy and ripen tomatoes that comes from local Calabrian farmers. These tomatoes are farmed and harvested manually and prepared in few hours. Carefully washed, slice cut (keeping the skin), put in glass jars and boiled in water bath for preservation. The flavor is of the fresh tomato, lightly salty, excellent for the preparation of a nice Caprese.
Our Pairing Suggestion:
Caprese is a typical Italian appetizer made during summer with Mozzarella cheese, sliced tomatoes and aromatic herbs. We kindly suggest to use these tomatoes, since the are already cut in half.
We also suggest a pair with a glass of Prosecco Extra Dry to keep the whole dish in Italy, or, if you rather have a firm wine, a glass of Verdejo from Spain.

Tomato “Spaccatella” takes its name from the Italian verb “spaccare“, which means “to crush”, “to break”, and also “to slice”. The name Spaccatella is referred to tomatoes, therefore it only means that the red fruits have been cut in half.
